Main regulations

Here are some hunting regulations published in the Société de la faune et des parcs du Québec's brochure "La chasse au Québec, principales règles".

  • In Northern Québec, hunters and any person accompanying the hunters must wear for any kinds of hunt (rifle and bow hunting) a fluorescent orange piece of clothing covering up the back, shoulders and chest. Crossbow hunting is prohibited.
  • The caribou-hunting license allows you to tag out with two caribou per hunter. As soon as a caribou is taken(and not before), the hunter must detach the transportation coupon from his/her license and affix it to the animal.
  • It is prohibited to shoot on or in the direction of an animal, if this animal is on a public road.
  • It is prohibited to hunt from half an hour after sunset until half an hour before sunrise.
  • It is prohibited to chase an animal with a vehicle, a snowmobile, an all terrain vehicle, an aircraft or a motorized craft.
  • It is prohibited to transport a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle or in a trailer towed by a vehicle.
  • It is prohibited to shoot from his/her own vehicle, trailer or aircraft.
  • It is prohibited to be in possession of a firearm or bow at night; namely, between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise, except if the firearm or bow is placed in a gun case, in the vehicle trunk or in the aircraft belley.
